VALLEY OF VISION
2001
The intention of the project was that the new work would arise from a similar sensibility to that of Samuel Palmer's poetic transformation of the specifics of a landscape and place, in this case Shoreham in Kent.
My interest in texture as a base for narrative led me to experimenting with and utilising the mud collected from the River Darent running through Shoreham. When laying the mud on paper, I found that random tracks were left by the living aquatic organisms, providing the basis for the mythological imagery that emerged. The earth bound constellations are viewed from an aerial perspective, inverting the perceived concept of them having a heavenly origin.
